Tips to boost your communication skills

Communication – the human connection – is the key to personal and career success.” – Paul J Meyer

Socializing holds more importance today than it ever has.
That missed lead or a new client can just wriggle out when you cannot communicate well enough. In an era where appearances matter much, communicating effectively yet convincingly is a skill that all of us would want to master at some point before/during our professional stints.

Why is reading important?

Reading literature, watching quality news and solving crosswords are all exercises that can improve your vocabulary significantly.
But, what good is vocabulary when you are too afraid and “hazed” to actually present it confidently. Nervousness during your first presentation can take away a lot of your credibility, almost irreversibly– Be it an exam, an Angel Investor’s meet or that Angel-investment meeting that you’ve been preparing for forever…

The physiology of Nervousness continues to remain a mystery, there are few aids that can help you not just better rely on your central nervous systems when you need it the most.
A few such aides are:

Meditation:

Regarded as the “Umbrella Cure” for all things psychosomatic.
Meditation for even 10 minutes a day has proven to improve our threshold levels for stress, frustration and anxiety.
By calming and getting into the zone for those few minutes, you could enhance your productivity by hours on end. Meditation is also regarded as the “Social Detox” of our generation, a habit that can effectively flush-out our body of “wasteful information” and restore balance of Neurotransmitters in the brain.

High-Intensity Interval Training:

Some might argue that meditation is for the brain, what HIIT is for the body.

Apart from releasing endorphins, that enable mental clarity and a “super-charged” metabolic state, HIIT targets and enhances our body-image by helping us reduce weight and looking as the “Best” version of ourselves. Non-confidence in ourselves seems to be a widespread deterrent to our communication skills. HIIT increases our confidence and endurance levels to not only be better problem-solvers but to also reach at solutions quicker than our lethargic-selves.

HIIT along with the use of Nootropics like PhosphatidylSerine has a summative effect of increasing our memory and neural regeneration capabilities. HIIT associated benefits can be further enhanced with the use of Ginseng and Valerian, both of which have very-strong Antioxidant properties, that reduce our susceptibility to stroke and hypertension.

Pharmacological Agents:

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) are known to improve the “Forward Conductance” in the brain.

By better storing newer words and more importantly, having it on the tips of our fingers at the right instant – SSRI’s and Nootropics like DHEA, Ashwagandha and Bacopa Monnieri – We could possibly “Biohack” into our brains and become the best versions of ourselves.

Nootropics:

Anxiety, Stress and the resulting Non-confidence and Substance abuse can hamper our communication skills exponentially.
While stress happens to be the root-cause for the negative body image, substance abuse and Non-confidence are precipitating symptoms of this vicious cycle. Nootropics by acting multiple levels of this cycle, can bring about Positive feedback and motivation in times of dire need.

Lobelia Inflata, another plant derived chemical has similar effects as nicotine has helped many lifelong addicts of Cigarettes to quit the “Cancer sticks:”, and have better stamina and endurance abilities while allowing for the same levels of socializing as when smoking cigarettes.
Lobelia Inflata is also known to ease muscle stress and enhance cognitive abilities when taken in the right amounts.
Ashwagandha and Gotu Kola are other nootropics that have proven efficacy in enhancing memory formation when taken over a period of time. ( 3 Months and  more).N-Acetyl cysteine and N-Acetyl Tyrosine are a few other Nootropics that are being studied for their neural-strength imparting abilities. A special mention needs to be made for Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) which can enhance our metabolism all over the body and specifically improves the neural regeneration and memory formation processes at the CNS.
